Heritage
Basket Project
In conjunction with Michigan State University, the
Association of Michigan Basketmakers developed a grant-funded project
to preserve basketry and to document oral histories of basketmakers
integral to the AMB and the Great Lakes region.
The exhibit at the MSU Museum has
closed, but you can check out the project online at the MSU Museum Collections site here. You
will need to scroll down to the last item under History and general
description and click on the Michigan Heritage Basket collection link.
Or you can go directly to the site for the GREAT LAKES BASKETRY COLLECTION here.
Preparations are being made for part of
the exhibit to travel to
other museums around the country. It has been decided that one
piece from each artist will travel.
As soon as plans are firmed up the information will be posted here.

History, A Basket Heritage Project" book is now ready.
The book consists of 153 pages of basketry history, artists and
